As far as I know, there's a few long-term archival solutions in terms of optical media: However, since there's so many confounding arguments and facts on the optical media topic, I thought to maybe discuss this with this post. While yes, original CD's and DVD's contain an organic layer that easily rots, there's better solutions out there. Now as already mentioned in the title, I think optical media could actually offer a solution here. HDDs have an average lifespan between 3-5 years, SSD suffer from extensive bitrot, Tape needs heavily controlled climate solutions, with both tape and HDDs having magnetic degredation over time. I have come to a point where my personal collection is getting somewhat extensive that I need long-term archival solutions that can be left on the shelf without being touched.
